A Fall Family Portrait Session
Steve and Renee must have timed Claire’s nap perfectly because she was such a good baby this entire shoot! A lot of the family portraits I’ve done have been in the summer and this shoot made me realize that fall is a prime time to capture family moments with a beautiful colourful backdrop.
Here are a few of my favourite shots:
Friends on Film Outside
A season of reprieve. And a certain sense of urgency to see the people you love while the sun is still warm on your skin.
Despite the state of the world I had a summer filled with amazing company, and I wanted to capture that company.
Part of the reason why I chose to shoot these portraits on film is because I knew I’d probably get the film back in the fall, when I would likely need memories to uplift me. It worked.
The Stolen Spring: COVID-19 Film Photo Diary
Neighbourhood walks have been a way to unwind and get some movement in these days.
I’ve always loved going for walks, but walking lately, especially along the same route, has brought this new sense of returning home.
Suddenly I’m an expert in my surroundings. I watched that magnolia tree down the street blossom and wither. I know exactly where puddles gather after a rainfall. And I’m constantly impressed that the vulnerable unlocked bike around the corner remains to be.
I’ve gotten to know my environment in a new way. And lately, I’m paying more attention.
Shot on my Olympus Stylus 120 point & shoot with 35mm Dubble Film Apollo - ISO 200.
Morocco on Film
Film! It shows the true feeling and colours of Morocco.
One roll was Portra 400 shot on my Olympus OM-2 SLR and the other on Kodak 400 with my Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom point & shoot - both 35mm.
Views from Morocco
One month ago, I had the pleasure of exploring Morocco. It’s a country that’s so effortlessly colourful and cool. Going through these images helps bring back a feeling of normalcy in this uncertain time, and reminded me how lucky I am that I got to meet amazing people in another part of the world, right before the world changed.
Testing out my new/old Minolta
I found a Minolta point and shoot at a garage sale for $5, and wasn’t expecting much from the first roll I shot on it (I thought the camera might be broken) but a few of them turned out nicely.
Testing out Yodica Andromeda 35mm Film
This 35mm roll of Yodica Andromeda (400 ISO) was shot on my Olympus Stylus 120 point & shoot camera. This series of film is brand new (!!) and it’s made in Milan, Italy. Yodica offers seven different types of film and they all have neat effects like different colours or light leaks.
This roll, Andromeda, changes your lens into rose coloured glasses. I think I’m sold on trying the rest.
Ania + Mark
Ania and I went to journalism school together and when we met her and her husband Mark for a cocktail and heard their plans for their big day, I was excited to photograph it with Gage.
These are some of my favourite shots from my batch. The lovely decor, flowers and bubbles made it a breeze to capture beautiful moments.
Boys Breaking Ballet Stereotypes
These are photos I took for a piece I wrote for CBC News on a historic moment for Canada’s National Ballet School. For the first time, more boys than girls will graduate in 2020. Read more here.
